Liberals Should be More Careful Because the Enemy of Their Enemy is Not Their Friend

The Left is eating its own again. Last week, at the College of William & Mary, #BlackLivesMatter shut down a Freedom of Speech event co-sponsored by the ACLU. This is what happens when Liberals decide to cast their fortunes in with anarchists and thugs.

BLM had no interest in the Left/Right feud, which should have been readily apparent almost from the beginning. They shut down a Bernie Sanders rally twice early in the primary season. Many primary contestants attempted to meet with them, to seek common ground and improve race relations. They weren’t appeased then, and they certainly aren’t now. The Left empowered them.

Liberals took them into their fold, so they thought, and began vigorously spreading a narrative about “whiteness,” and the deleterious effect it’s had on black society at large. White Liberals flocked to join protests and heap derision upon themselves and all other white people. Has this improved race relations in the US? I think not. Rather, it further exacerbated an already palpable anger among many whites. The Obama Administration, some believed, used its power not to close the racial divide, but to rewrite history and encourage a Black Power narrative based not on evidence, but on emotion.

Examples of Obama’s meddling involve:

The Boston Police dispute with a prominent Harvard Professor, Henry Louis Gates, Jr., after which Obama said the Police Officer “acted stupidly.”This finally ended in an awkward “Beer Summit” at the White House. A subsequent investigation into the Boston PD found no evidence of racial profiling, but the Law Enforcement Community as a whole felt that they’d been thrown under the proverbial bus.

After the Trayvon Martin affair: Obama declared, “If I had a son he’d look like Trayvon,” and subsequently, there was the presence of administration officials at his funeral service. Further, after George Zimmerman was acquitted by a Florida Court, Eric Holder’s Justice Department opened a two-year Federal Investigation into the shooting, ultimately finding there was no evidence to suggest the original verdict was incorrect or that Zimmerman had a racist motive.

“Hands Up, Don’t Shoot” was a completely false narrative based on the shooting of Michael Brown by a white officer. Mr. Brown’s hands were not in the air, but trying to remove the officer’s sidearm, as proven by the officer’s acquittal by a jury of any wrongdoing. Obama’s remarks didn’t mention any wrongdoing on the part of Mr. Brown, instead, he said, “Of course, it’s important to remember how this started. We lost a young man, Michael Brown, in heartbreaking and tragic circumstances. He was 18 years old, and his family will never hold Michael in their arms again.” Another Federal Investigation followed, and again, the Officer was cleared of wrongdoing. This fueled continued unrest across the country against Law Enforcement personnel as they were again, thrown under the bus.

The angst continued through uprisings and a subsequent witch hunt in Baltimore, where Officers were again acquitted of wrongdoing. Then to South Carolina where a white man mowed down members of a church in cold blood. Though the entire nation mourned them, Obama began “a series of stirring speeches in Selma, Ala., and Charleston, where he acknowledged America’s long and continuous history of racial injustice.” Unfortunately, he managed to rile up hatred and division, rather than offer a solution for Americans to rally behind.

All of these events were unmitigated tragedies and terrible stains on history for the Obama Administration. There was so much hope in the country when he was elected. Though many of us didn’t give him our votes, we joined in the hope that his Presidency would bring an end to racial unrest and lingering division. More than a few of us were betrayed by his gleaming smile, good looks, and great speechmaking.

Black Lives Matter will continue to thwart free speech and disrupt gatherings and roadways. There is no incentive for them to change tactics when it’s creating so much discord and turmoil, which I would argue, is their goal. They say they are peacefully protesting, but they continuously reject law and order in favor of chaos and anger. After a friendly cookout in Kansas between BLM and local police:

A Washington, D.C. chapter of the Black Lives Matter movement said on Twitter that a community event held in Wichita, Kansas with the Wichita Police Department — which brought police and citizens together to cook, eat, dance, and talk — was ‘not in line with [their] principles.’

The Washington chapter later noted via Twitter that, “Our statement about BLM BBQ’s with police was a direct response to the tons of people and orgs who were upset by the event,” and continued to say that they “assured folks our principles were still focused on dismantling the system.”

Liberals need to see this group for what it is: an organization promoting ideas antithetical to America and its Constitution. They are actually much closer to Antifa when their true goals are revealed. This is just one reason why Conservatives are at odds with Liberals. We see Liberals, as a broad-based group, supporting the likes of Antifa and BLM, and we just don’t understand the reason why.

Lately, I’m seeing the Left distancing themselves from Antifa, and rightfully so. Frankly, it’s about time they took a closer look at BLM and the fact that these people want to tear down America. Until they can look at the facts objectively and stop parroting talking points, it will be impossible to come together in the spirit of Americans.
